Mr. Rick Brumby

Rick Brumby was introduced to the martial arts in 1975 when he began studying at Tracy`s Kenpo in Lemon Grove, CA.
After the school closed, he found College Center Karate in San Diego where he received his 1st Black in Chinese Kenpo in 1981 under Sifu Dan Cepeda.
During this time, he also fought three California AAU sanctioned full contact karate matches with a record of 2-0-1.
During his navy service from 1982 - 1988, he trained wherever and whenever he could earning rankings in WTF Tae Kwon Do, Isshinryu Karate, Judo, and Moy Yat Wing Chun.
While stationed onboard the U.S.S. Deyo, he was assigned to the Ship`s Self Defense Force Team. This included training in small arms, CQB, ship boarding, and crew control. In 1988, Rick was introduced to American Kenpo by Barry Price, a Joe Palanzo black belt and for the next four years, he relearned the kenpo system while also studying Pikiti Tersia Arnis under Carlos Patalinghug.
In 1992, he received his 1st Black under the auspices of the WKKA.
From 1992 to 1998, he was a member of the Navel Reserve assigned to MIUW212, a Littoral Warfare unit designated to detect and interdict small craft and combat swimmers. Working regularly with Naval Special Warfare, he attended several schools including Designated Marksman, USMC Battleskills, Reactions Force and Small Unit Operations. This also gave him the opportunity to work with members of several naval special warfare units including U.S. Navy SEALs, USMC Recon, British SBS, French COMMANDO HUBERT, and Italian COMSUBIN.
The different flavors and interpretations of military combatives changed his views on martial arts in general and the way he taught self-defense in particular.
Upon his relocation to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, he began training under Huk Planas and his student, David Lebron. It was Huk Planas who first gave him the idea of opening a school, which he did in 1994.
Seeking to further his knowledge, he began attending seminars taught by some of the most recognized names in American Kenpo including Larry Tatum, Jeff Speakman, Ron Chapel, Frank Trejo, John Sepulveda, Barbra Hail, and Skip Hancock.
It was a seminar with Skip Hancock that refocused his direction of kenpo and led him to Kenpo2000 under Dennis Lawson. Finding that his students were having a lot of difficulty with the conceptual training of Kenpo2000, he went searching again and found Paul Mills in February 1998.
Since that time, he has been teaching and promoting the Mills method of American Kenpo under the guidance and instruction of Paul Mills and his organization, American Kenpo Karate International. He received his 2nd through 6th degree black belt promotions under Master of the Arts Paul Mills at the International AKKI Camps in Las Vegas. During this time he successfully ran a 6000 sq. ft. training facility in Biloxi, MS with over 150 active members.
Recognized as a studio emphasizing practical self-defense, contact, and attention to detail, Infinite Horizons Martial Arts and Fitness set the bar for quality martial arts instruction on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. With several of his students being active military and local LEO`s, he gained further insight and training in the Marine`s MCMAP, the Army`s MAC program, and the Use of Force Continuum.
He has produced kick-boxing champions and successful MMA fighters while continuing his martial arts education attending seminars under Royce Gracie, Ricardo De La Riva, Pedro Sauer, Eric Paulson, Dan Inosanto, Chai Sirisute and training under Pedro Sauer black belt Allen Hopkins.
Unfortunately, Aug. 29, 2005 placed a speed bump in his life when Hurricane Katrina destroyed his studio. Not one to be kept down, he and his wife Tina relocated to Saint Cloud, Fl where they opened up their new studio, Premier Kenpo Karate Dec. 18th, 2007.
Rick continues to train under Paul Mills, has achieved his Purple Belt under BJJ Black Belt Fred Ramie, and attends any seminars and workshops that re-enforce the combative mindset.
He works with local law enforcement and corrections officers and offers free self-defense and fitness seminars to schools, youth groups, and the local business community.
